This informative and practice-enhancing session will expand our awareness and understanding of neurodiversity and how it may show up in coaching.  Whether you are a neurodiverse coach, are working with a neurodiverse clients or want to apply accessible design principles to broaden your ability to work effectively with a range of clients, join Deborah Shukyn-Plageman to consider ways to be prepared for and responsive to your clients.

PRIMARY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Explore:

  • The concepts of neurodiversity and neurodivergence
  • Socio-political-economic issues related to neurodivergence including recognition, diagnosis, treatment and workplace adjustments
  • Where and how neurodivergence shows up in coaching
  • Wisdom from the field as it relates to neurodiversity and the ICF coaching competencies
  • Building your continuing professional development plan to apply accessible design principles in your coaching practice

EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

  • Create a plan for how the coach’s reflective practice can support neurodiversity and coaching.
  • Define the difference between neurodiversity and neurodivergence.
  • Understand  what pathways or systems have brought neurodivergent clients to your coaching practice.
  • Learn to align the ICF competencies where it relates to neurodivergence and coaching.

About the Speaker: Deborah Shukyn- Plageman



Deborah Shukyn- Plageman, M.Ed, PCC, ESIA, EIA, CCDP is a dedicated advocate and member of the neurodivergent community, bringing over 18 years of coach mentorship, coaching supervision, research and practice . Deborah is the founder of coach professional development community “Coaching Neurodiversity at Work ” and co-host of a limited series podcast “Neurodivergently Coaching”.

With a Master’s Degree in transformative, distance education and three years of Doctoral coursework centered on coaching for marginalized communities, Deborah is in the process of publishing the results of a her research into providing coaching supervision as continuing professional development in a justice-oriented context. This was a pro bono research project conducted in collaboration with a community development organization. The organization, whose founder is neurodivergent has a coaching bench of over 400 dedicated coaching professionals who provide a full year of pro bono coaching to low-income women to build sustainable, prosperous careers and businesses with the aim of permanently exiting poverty.
