Hat on, Hat off
Debunking the "hat on, hat off" approach while empowering coaches to more freely share their insights and observations during a coaching conversation.
Description
In the early days of coaching, it was common for coaches to use the "hat on, hat off" expression to switch roles within a coaching conversation. This practice seemingly allowed the coach to share their thoughts and opinions while respecting the "rules of coaching." After years of refining our professional standards, we now know better ways to offer our insights while staying in the coaching role.
Still, coaches seem afraid to use this skill, sometimes even believing that a coach should never offer their thoughts to a client. In this workshop, Elias Scultori, MCC, revisits this once-common practice and uncovers the limitations of switching "hats." He also shares the power of embracing the skill of sharing observations when doing it through the coaching mindset.
Join us to explore:
- Why switching "hats" can undermine your coaching effectiveness
- A more robust approach that fosters a meaningful coaching process
- How to provide observations without stepping outside your coaching role
Whether you're an experienced coach or just starting out, this workshop will help you refine your understanding of ICF Core Competency #7—Evokes Awareness and give you additional tools to empower your coaching intervention.
